About Us

CombatAircraft.com began as a hobby in 1999, letting a military aviation analyst and a web developer express their shared interest in modern military aircraft. Several decades later, CombatAicraft.com remains a foundational resource for information about the world's air forces.

Munnaf Joarder

I was six years old when I was exposed to military aircraft and it never went away.  I never thought my passion for military aviation, coupled with my interest in photography and web development  would give me an opportunity to communicate and help educate people in the military and civilians from around the world.

The development of CombatAircraft.com started out as a hobby for Matt Young and I, and has evolved into a training tool, not only for military personnel but civilians as well.

During my 32 years in the U.S. Air National Guard, I worked with fighters, transports and retired while working with air to air refueling tankers.  My goal was to become a fighter pilot but was disqualified from becoming a pilot due to poor eye sight.  So I chose the intelligence carrier field because it gave me the chance to fly and work one on one with the air crews, which satisfied my desire to fly.

CombatAircraft.com was benchmarked by U.S. Air Mobility Command as a training tool for aircrew flying in the U.S. Air Force active duty, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.

Matt Young

I was first exposed to military aircraft when I was in my early teens. I purchased a modeling kit from a local department store; an A-10 Warthog. When it was complete, I was struck by the detail in the model and what I had learned about the type through the assembly process. During the same summer, I assembled a B-1 Lancer and an F-4 Phantom, enjoying the process more and more. When summer was over, the brief hobby didn't stick. But what I learned stayed with me well into adulthood.

Once I met Munnaf, my interest in the subject burgeoned. Together, we made CombatAircraft.com, and as we produced content, Munnaf would teach me a little bit about each type along the way. I'm fascinated by the styles of each aircraft, the evolution of the technologies employed, and the way air capabilities augment a military's ability to project force.

As the website's computer technologist, I've also enjoyed employing various strategies to make the website come to life. Web technology has changed dramatically, several times, over the last 25+ years. Being able to express those technologies through the site has been personally fulfilling.
