Lockheed Martin Answers President Obama’s Call For Veteran Support
BETHESDA, Md., August 5th, 2011 - In response to President Obama’s call to action to support U.S. military veterans, Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today announced its strong endorsement of his challenge to support military families by actively recruiting and hiring veterans transitioning back into the workplace.
“We’re proud to announce that we are expanding our targeted series of Wounded Warrior-focused hiring events, where we invite veterans with disabilities in for face-to-face interviews with hiring managers,” said Bob Stevens, Lockheed Martin chairman and chief executive officer. “Additionally, veterans can connect with Lockheed Martin recruiters through new, monthly Wounded Warrior employment virtual chat room sessions.”
Lockheed Martin has a long-standing commitment to successful job transition for veterans, veteran-owned small businesses and employment of veterans, National Guard members and Reservists. Today, approximately 20 percent of Lockheed Martin’s 126,000 employees are U.S. military veterans.
“The employees of Lockheed Martin have a great desire and capacity to support our military veterans, and we make it a priority to ensure that veterans benefit from our supportive and inclusive environment,” said Stevens. “Veterans are highly-skilled and well-trained in areas that directly translate to the critical work we do. We have the highest regard for our veterans and their families and we feel honored when they choose to join our team.”
In 2005, Lockheed Martin created a dedicated military employment outreach team whose sole focus is support for transitioning veterans. Some key achievements are:
• Currently hiring nearly 1,000 transitioning veterans annually,
• Launched a dedicated Transitioning Military Careers Website,
• Hired a dedicated Military Relations recruiting team, made up of veterans,
• Hosting bi-weekly transitioning military recruiting virtual chat sessions,
• Secured primary sponsorship of the Service Academy Career Conference hiring events, and
• Participating in more than 200 military and Wounded Warrior hiring events each year.
