More than 2,000 years back, Sun Tzu, the author of the Art of War wrote, “For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill; to subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.” If I was a Chinese general and keen to defeat India without combating, do you know what I would do? I would provide ‘proofs’ that foreign arms dealers have corrupted some Indian officials or politicians by paying hefty ‘commissions’.

The U.S. Navy has had two aircraft carriers steaming in Middle Eastern waters for most of the past three years. And despite warnings from the Navy that maintaining the two-carrier presence there over an extended period could have drastic effects on the fleet, they stayed for one simple reason: a general believed they were necessary.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) didn’t take any chances guarding President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister A K Antony at Pokhran in Rajasthan where the trio had gone to witness the IAF combat exercise codenamed ‘Iron Fist’. For three hours on February 22, a fully-armed IAF Su-30MKI combat plane kept a tight but unobtrusive combat-mode vigil over here.

In the latest setback to the already-overbudget Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme, the Pentagon grounded the entire fleet while it investigated a potentially devastating tear in the engine of a US Air Force jet. Among the 51 aircraft suspended from flying were two British fighters, which are currently undergoing testing at an American base in Florida.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard denied claims Sunday that it had brought downed a foreign surveillance drone on its soil, just hours after state media reported the aircraft's capture. The official Islamic Republic News Agency had initially broken news of the apparent seizure of a unmanned drone on Saturday, quoting an army general as stating: "We have managed to bring down a drone of the enemy. This has happened before in our country."
