When it comes to buying weapons, the U.S. government is its own worst enemy. It wastes vast amounts of time and money trying to get new programs exactly right, and then ends up fielding combat systems that are too costly and too late to the fight. If there’s one thing Republicans and Democrats agree on, it’s that the Pentagon needs to buy weapons faster and more affordably that keep America’s military at the cutting edge of warfighting technology.
